You Can Become Bold and Fearless

Bold: to be brave, daring, courageous, intrepid, valiant.

God is calling us to be bold. If you have the tendency to not take chances in life because you're afraid of making mistakes, God wants you to know He's pleased with you when you try. It doesn't matter if you don't do everything exactly right. What matters is that you step out in faith, believing God will help you!

Second Timothy 1:7 says that God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power—and He wants us to use it! It doesn't take courage to do what we already know we can do. True courage is displayed when you're afraid to do something but you go ahead and do it anyway. The truth is, we don't ever have to fear because we can ask God for His help anytime we need it.

Taking the Focus Off of Performance

There are so many people who are so afraid of making a mistake that they don't do anything. Instead, they sit around saying, "What if I'm wrong?" Well, we're human. We're going to make mistakes and look silly from time to time.

We can be so afraid of being judged or criticized or getting laughed at. But the only thing fear does in our lives is stop our progress.

What matters to God is relationship…not performance. God knows we aren't perfect, and He's totally okay with it. The problem is, the devil knows it too, and he does his best to tell us every step of the way!

We can be going along, serving God, doing good, stepping out in faith and then all of a sudden, without there being any justification for it, we'll have a day or week when we have an attack on our mind about fear. That's when we need to say what God's Word tells us:

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. — 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NIV

Honesty Outweighs Perfection

We can care too much about what people think of us to the point where it totally immobilizes us and we are petrified about looking wrong. But do you know what? I think if we are more truthful, we will actually get more respect than we do by trying to hide everything, pretending we're perfect.

I believe one of the main reasons people like to listen to me is that I tell all my junk. It helps them to relax, to relate to me, and offers them hope that if I can do some of the things I've done and make it, so can they.

We need to stop living in fear of making mistakes, because we will make mistakes—period. God is not asking us to not make any mistakes. He's calling us to be bold—fearless in approaching Him, in stepping out in faith, and in trusting Him to lead us.

Devotional

God Is Speaking. Are You Listening?

But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].
—John 16:13

God's greatest desire for His children is that they experience His best in their lives, and that includes being able to hear clearly from Him in an intimate, personal way.

God longs to have a people who worship Him in Spirit and in truth (see John 4:23-24), who follow Him and know His voice (see John 10:2-14). The depth of our personal relationship with God is based upon intimate communication with Him. He speaks to us so that we are guided, refreshed, restored, and renewed regularly.

Listening is the first step toward hearing. I encourage you to turn your ear toward Him and be still. He will speak to you and tell you He loves you. God cares about your life and wants to meet your needs and do more than you could ever think or imagine in order to bless you abundantly (see Ephesians 3:20).

You are one of His sheep, and the sheep know the Shepherd's voice— the voice of a stranger they will not follow. You can hear from God; it is part of your inheritance—don't ever believe otherwise! Listen to Him, then follow Him all of the days of your life.

Step Out

Arise [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you—rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!
—Isaiah 60:1

"Step out and find out" is my slogan. I hate to see people shrink back in fear and be so afraid of making a mistake that they never try to do anything. I know a young man who quit a good job to go into music ministry. It was a bold step, and he did everything he could to make it work, but it just didn't (at least not at this time). However, I am proud of him that he was bold enough to try. At least now he won't spend the rest of his life wondering what could have been if only he had tried.

Unless you listen to God and follow your own heart, you will live an unfulfilled and frustrated life. Anyone who allows other people to control [them] and guide [their] destiny will eventually become bitter and feel used and taken advantage of. I think it is better to try and fail than never to try at all. Sometimes the only way we can discover what we are supposed to do with our lives is to try different things until we see what works and what fits right in our heart.

Lord, I don't want to live with regrets. Help me to be bold and step out and follow what I believe You've put in my heart to do. Amen.

This is your time

It was a test that we could all hope to pass
But none of us would want to take
Faced with the choice to deny God and live
For her there was one choice to make

This was her time
This was her dance
She lived every moment
Left nothing to chance

She swam in the sea
Drank of the deep
Embraced the mystery of all she could be
This was her time

Though you are mourning and grieving your loss
Death died a long time ago
Swallowed in life so that life carries on
Still it's so hard to let go

What if tomorrow
And what if today
Faced with the question
Oh what would you say

This is your time
This is your dance
Make every moment
Leave nothing to chance

Swim in the sea
Drink of the deep
Call on the mercy
Hear yourself praying

Won't You save me
Won't You save me

Assim diz o SENHOR, o que preparou no mar um caminho, e nas águas impetuosas uma vereda;

Run to Jesus

“When I was desperate, I called out, and God got me out of a tight spot.” Psalm 34:6, THE MESSAGE

Run to Jesus. Jesus wants you to go to him. He wants to become the most important person in your life, the greatest love you’ll ever know. He wants you to love him so much that there’s no room in your heart and in your life for sin. Invite him to take up residence in your heart.
